In the interest of full disclosure, I've known the author since 1976, though I've not seen much of him since the early 80s. I bought the book with little to no expectations, as I typically buy only fiction. Adult Dating: My STDs (Seriously Tragic Dates) was a funny, insightful and easy read. It felt like I was catching up with an old friend. At the same time, the range and depth of Pat's view of the world, heard through his experiences as a guy trying to stay afloat in adult dating pool, surprised me and brought me into the mind of someone I never really "knew." His writing style puts you at ease on the proverbial porch with a beer in your hand listening to him muse and philosophise about a world of which most of us are painfully aware, yet with a unique insight and a humorous touch.Product details

As always, Patrick uses witty satire to deliver an eye opening message. I was both deeply moved and thoroughly entertained at times. In fact, I laughed outloud about the woman with list. That is too funny.

I was so excited to hear about the book by Patrick Talley. Patrick is a gifted writer. He makes you laugh, and writes in ways that surprise you. It's wonderfully written and gives you insight into what it's like to date as an adult. It will make you recall your own funny stories. Yes, it's a very fun book to read. But most of all, I like how you get insight into the soul of the author. He lets you into his own real emotions about dating, the excitement, the fun, the disappointment he experiences as he takes you through his own journey. It's delightful.
Patrick Talley exposes his turbulent and tumultuous re-introduction into the dating world with a light and comical touch in his new book. His adventures of dating in the "after life" of marriage will leave you laughing out loud as you recall some of your mishaps along with him. Patrick's intimate way of welcoming the reader into his world will surely make you feel like you are a good friend just having a drink with him. Whether you are married or not, this book will leave you laughing out loud as well as reflecting on past (and possibly present) mistakes. I highly recommended this to my husband and all of my other single and married friends. It is a light hearted, yet poignant guide, to keeping it real and keeping yourself centered. Regardless of whether you are dating your husband, wife, girlfriend, or boyfriend, we could all stand a little humor to remind what it is like out "there".
I recall the day Patrick shot me an email asking if I would like to read the proof of his latest book. A short time later, I have it printed and am through the entire book. It's one of those I could not put down. Some of the stories had me laughing to the point I was snorting while others had me in quiet thought on some of my Seriously Tragic Dates. This book does it all. You will laugh, you will reflect, you will experience some heart felt emotions, but most of all, you will have a good time reading the book. What are you waiting for? I was both entertained and enlightened by this charming, honest, and humorous book. Similar to his first (incredible) book on parenting (Divorced Dads' Rules for Raising Relatively Stable Kids), Patrick very slyly sneaks in his hard-earned lessons and wisdom in the guise of often downright funny stories. While many of the stories are hilarious, others are quite touching and sweet, and some a bit sad, but all are very real and honest and impart a lasting impression on or share a valuable lesson with the reader.
Patrick covers some rather serious subjects, often with a wink and a grin, but always with honesty and authenticity. He is quite vulnerable in sharing some very personal and often painful episodes. As I myself am just reentering this world of adult dating, Patrick's book scares me a bit but assures me that, if nothing else, there will be many laughs along the way and all will be well if handled with a sense of humor.
This book is written in a light and easy manner that leaves you feeling like you've had a long conversation with the author over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. You know, it almost makes you feel like you've dated him yourself. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to learn more about romantic relationships (single or not) or just looking to be entertained with a good laugh and a lot of entertaining and enlightening stories.
This book is a perfect example of how self-publishing can be a bad idea. No editor would have permitted it.
